Experienced Rowers

If you’ve rowed or coxed before (on the Cam or elsewhere) you can often go straight into the senior squad without novicing first.

The number of senior crews during Michaelmas term varies depending on how many rowers we have, but there is always plenty going on. With VIIIs and IVs going out regularly, as well as a mixture of ergs and weights on the land, the senior training program gets off to a flying start. Additionally, the club has several small boats which can be taken out with captains permission. Don’t worry if you have never sculled before, seniors have the chance to learn in Easter team.

From Lent term onwards, former novices graduate to senior rowers. Crews are then set based on a variety of factors, including desired level of commitment, erg scores and technical ability. So if you’re worried about commitment, don’t be – the squads cater for all levels, with first boats training maybe 6-7 times a week, and the lower boats anywhere from 2-6 times, depending on the current crew.

In recent years, several current and former members of THBC have trialled for the university, competed in the Boat Race, and even competed at an international level.
