Race for Trinity Hall

THBC takes place in a wide variety of races over the course of the year, from side by side sprints to the famous bumps, and has a long history of success in all aspects.

Bumps Racing

Bumps racing in the highlight of the year, and the main focus of our training. This slightly strange style of racing is almost unique to Oxbridge. 17 boats line up a boat length and a half apart , with the aim to hit, or ‘bump’ the crew in front, before being caught from behind. These races take place over 4 or 5 days, sand it is absolutely one of the most exciting sporting events you will ever watch or compete in. There are two chances to get involved with bumps, with Lent bumps and May bumps taking part in later February/early March and early June respectfully.

Head Races

These are time trials against the clock, with each boat being set off with a small gapto the next one. Throughout the year, there are several of these. From the Fairbairn Cup, the longest race of the year, to Head-to-Head races, where you race both up and down the river.

Regattas

These are shorter side-by-side races, and often a knock-out competition. The fastest progresses all the way to the final. And in Emma Sprints, you’ll even get to do it in fancy dress.

There are also Head races and Regattas for fours, doubles and singles.

QErgs

This is an eight-person rowing machine relay, where your time getting off the erg is just as important as your speed on it!
